Arsenal winger Noni Madueke is set to undergo tests after picking up a knee injury against Manchester City.
Noni Madueke could be out for a while after he was forced off with a knee injury in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday. The 23-year-old winger was substituted at halftime, with Bukayo Saka replacing him.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta revealed that Madueke had an issue early in the match and wasn’t well enough to continue.
The news has sparked concern among Arsenal fans, given the club’s already significant injury list. Kai Havertz is out with a knee injury, while Martin Ødegaard missed the match against City due to a shoulder issue. Bukayo Saka, Arsenal’s star player, was also out for a month with a hamstring injury before making his return in the match against City.
Madueke has been impressive since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer, scoring and providing assists in his limited appearances. His absence would be a significant blow to Arsenal’s title hopes, especially with key matches coming up, including a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.
Arsenal will likely breathe a sigh of relief if the tests reveal a less severe injury. However, there are fears that Madueke might have ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), which would require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
The potential absence of Madueke would give teenager Max Dowman more opportunities to shine. Dowman has been impressive in training and could be in line for a starting spot in Arsenal’s upcoming match against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup. With Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Eberechi Eze also available, Arsenal has a deep pool of attacking talent to draw from.
For now, Arsenal fans can only wait and see how severe Madueke’s injury is. The club will hope for a swift recovery, given the importance of the player to their attacking lineup.
