Inter coach Cristian Chivu insists his team showed positives in their 4-3 defeat to Juventus, but believes they need to cancel out the past to shake off anxiety and bring home results.
Despite suffering a 4-3 defeat to Juventus, Inter coach Cristian Chivu believes his team showed positive elements in their performance. The Nerazzurri had fought back from a goal down twice, with Hakan Calhanoglu scoring two fantastic individual goals and Marcus Thuram adding a header.
However, Juventus ultimately prevailed, thanks to Khephren Thuram’s nod-in from a free kick and Vasilije Adzic’s long-range rocket in stoppage time.
Chivu praised the team’s character and performance, saying, “I think we had a really good performance in the first and second half.” However, he also acknowledged that the team lacked sharpness in the final 10 minutes, which ultimately cost them the win. “Unfortunately, there are moments in the match, especially in the final 10 minutes, where we were lacking,” Chivu said.
The defeat was Inter’s second consecutive Serie A loss, following a 2-1 defeat to Udinese before the international break. Chivu believes that the team needs to learn from these experiences and improve their ability to control games. “If you used up a lot of energy to turn a game around, you should control it differently in that situation,” he said.
One positive for Inter was the return of Calhanoglu, who scored two fantastic goals and took control of the midfield. Chivu praised Calhanoglu’s performance, saying, “Calha did what we all expected, because this is his quality, it’s what he gives to the team.”
Chivu also addressed the question of whether there is a psychological frailty in the squad, given their recent defeats.
He believes that the team is working hard and that they need to cancel out some of the past disappointments to bring home results. “I saw good things tonight and in the second half against Udinese, even if we didn’t pick up points,” Chivu said. “We keep going, we need to cancel out some things that happened in the past so that we can have the calm and focus to bring home results.”
The defeat to Juventus will be a disappointment for Inter, but Chivu remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. He believes that they can learn from their mistakes and improve their performance. With the right mindset and focus, Inter can bounce back from this defeat and achieve their goals.
