Real Betis have opened negotiations with Isco over a new contract that would place him among the club’s top earners, matching the salary of recent signing Antony.

Talks between the 33-year-old midfielder and the club began earlier in the summer but have gathered pace in recent weeks. Isco is Betis’ captain and one of their key players, so both parties want his contract to reflect his status within the squad.

The one-time Real Madrid midfielder signed his last extension in December 2023 after an impressive first half of the season in Seville. The deal runs until 2027, which means he still has two years left, but Antony’s deadline-day transfer from Manchester United has changed the club’s wage hierarchy.

The Brazilian became the club’s highest-paid player following his €25m arrival, prompting Betis to revisit Isco’s terms in order to maintain balance within the dressing room.

Isco is currently sidelined with an injury expected to keep him out for around three months, but the club remain intent on clearing the air before he returns to action.

Despite interest from other clubs during the transfer window, the club captain has made it clear that he sees his long-term future at Betis.
