United recently signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, but the intention was to compete with Onana, rather than replace him
Manchester United are in talks with Turkish club Trabzonspor over a potential loan move for goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Trabzonspor are exploring a season-long deal with no fee or option to buy. Any agreement would depend on the 29-year-old approving the switch.
The Turkish transfer window remains open until 12 September, giving both sides time to conclude negotiations.
Onana has been keen to remain at United but he is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, with United’s other goalkeeping option Altay Bayindir taking his place after he missed pre-season due to a hamstring injury.
However, Onana has not improved his chances of reclaiming his No 1 spot in the league, with his only appearance for the club coming in United’s Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town where he made two costly mistakes.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper joined United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for an initial €51m and was signed as David de Gea’s replacement, but he has failed to live up to expectations, making a series of high-profile errors since his arrival.
United recently strengthened their goalkeeping department with the deadline-day signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, but the intention was for Lammens to compete with Onana and possibly Bayindir, rather than replace the Cameroonian outright.
Trabzonspor, who finished seventh in the Turkish Super Lig last season, are seeking to reinforce their squad before the window closes and view Onana as a possible first-choice option.
