With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just a few weeks away, we take a look at group E, which includes Germany, Curacao, Ivory Coast and Ecuador.

Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Sunday, 14th June 2026, with Ivory Coast taking on Ecuador at the Philadelphia Stadium, while Germany face Ecuador at the Houston Stadium.

The biggest story in the group is the arrival of Curacao at the World Cup as they make their first-ever World Cup appearance. They will now know how to fight for a chance to make history against four-time champions Germany and World Cup regulars Ecuador and Ivory Coast.

Who Will Make It Out Of The Group Stage?

Germany

Germany are strong favourite to make it out of the group. Although they had a scare in their World Cup qualifiers and have been unimpressive since winning the World Cup in 2014, they are still one of the top countries in World football.

Germany come into the World Cup with a talented crop of players that could tear apart any defence. Neuer is back in the team, while the likes of Wirtz and Musiala will bring a spark of magic and creativity to a star-studded front line.

Nagelsmann has a lot of expectations on him, but having announced a strong squad, he has a great chance of making it past the group stage.

Ecuador

Ecuador seem like the second strongest team in group E. They have appeared at the World Cup four times.

Ecuador finished second in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table, higher than Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay. Under Sebastian Beccacece, they have become one of the hardest teams to beat in South American football, a trait that they can translate to the World Cup.

They have a strong defensive core with Hincapie, Pacho and Ordeonez from Club Brugge, with Chelsea’s Caicedo sitting in front of them. Ecuador would be pretty hard to break down, and they could easily finish second.

Ivory Coast

The 2024 AFCON winners are back in the World Cup for the first time since 2014. Under Emerse Fae, who coached them to the AFCON title despite being appointed mid-tournament, Ivory Coast have rediscovered themselves.

They ended their qualifying campaign without conceding any goal and with the traditional 4-3-3 formation, Ivory Coast rely on the midfield mastery of Frank Kessie, the speed of Amad Diallo and the physical strength of Guessand as their main striker.

Curacao

As the surprise package of group E, Curacao come into the World Cup as debutants. With this historic feat at the back of their mind, you won’t put it past them to cause upsets.

Although they made history by reaching the World Cup for the first time in their history and becoming the smallest country by population and area to reach the World Cup, their 78-year-old coach, Advocaat, resigned from the team for personal reasons.

Curacao will start the World Cup with a new coach, but this change isn’t expected to affect their spirit in the World Cup. Although they may come into the World Cup in high spirits, the teams in Group E may deal a huge blow to their expectations.
