Real Madrid boss says Rodrygo is “positive, eager and ready when needed”

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has said that Rodrygo remains part of his plans amid speculation over the Brazilian’s future at the club.

Rodrygo is currently with the Madrid squad in the United States as they prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup quarter-final on Saturday at MetLife Stadium. However, his long-term role at the club is uncertain, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain both showing interest in a potential transfer this summer.

Reports in Spain suggest Arsenal are leading the pursuit, with Real Madrid expected to demand a fee close to €90 million. PSG are also monitoring the situation.

Asked about Rodrygo during a pre-match press conference, Alonso said the forward remains focused and ready to contribute to the team.

“We’ve spoken: he’s positive, eager and ready when needed,” said Alonso. “I’m sure Rodrygo can return to his best form.”

Despite playing a supporting role last season behind Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe in Madrid’s attacking setup, Rodrygo featured regularly across all competitions, except when he was hindered by injuries.

The player joined Real Madrid from Santos in 2019 and has made over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 54 goals. He has won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies during his time at the Bernabeu.
