This application is only the first of three phases, with the second and third phases to come in October-December
The sales process for 2026 Fifa World Cup tickets has begun, after the first ticket presale signup window opened on Wednesday.
Tickets for the tournament will essentially be sold in three phases. Fifa confirmed that applications for the first phase can now be submitted, but it involves only Visa card holders. This first phase will run until 19 September.
The presale process is essentially a lottery. Fans selected to buy tickets for the first phase will be notified from 29 September and then allowed to do so beginning 1 October.
After this Visa sale, the second phase will run from 27 to 31 October, with its purchase window open from mid-November to early December.
The third phase will begin on 5 December, after the tournament draws have been held and the World Cup match schedules published. Left-over tickets after that will then become available on a first-come, first-served basis as the tournament draws near.
This World Cup will mark the first use of dynamic pricing, with ticket costs rising or falling based on demand. Initial prices range from $60 for group stage matches to $6,730 for the final in New Jersey.
The dynamic pricing model has been criticised because cost of tickets could drastically increase as demand rises, although Fifa said that costs could rise or fall throughout the sales process.
Each buyer can only purchase up to four tickets for each match and no more than 40 for the entire competition. Fifa has also said an official resale platform will be available.
The 2026 World Cup, running from 11 June to 19 July, will be the largest edition yet, with 48 teams competing across 104 matches. Games will be staged in 16 cities across the three host nations: 11 in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada.
Each host nation will play all its group games in its home territory, then possibly playing knockout games in other locations. The final will be played at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
