PSG players will miss the Ballon d’Or ceremony due to the rescheduled match against Marseille.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to take place in Paris on Monday, September 22, but PSG players will not be in attendance due to a last-minute scheduling conflict.

The team’s match against Marseille, known as Le Classique, was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to bad weather, and it will now kick off at 8:00 PM, coinciding with the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The decision to reschedule the match was made by the Prefect of Bouches-du-Rhone, citing severe weather conditions forecast for the Marseille region. PSG had reportedly expressed concerns about the timing of the match, as it would clash with the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where several of their players and coach Luis Enrique are nominated for awards.

Ousmane Dembele, who is the favorite to win the Ballon d’Or, is one of the PSG players affected by the scheduling conflict. However, due to his hamstring injury, he is expected to be sidelined for another four weeks and will not be impacted by the match. Dembele will be able to attend the ceremony and potentially receive his award, but he will do so without his teammates by his side.

The scheduling conflict has caused some tension between PSG and Marseille, with the two clubs reportedly having “intense discussions” about the timing of the match. PSG had wanted the game to be played at a different time to allow their players and coach to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony, but Marseille was unwilling to accommodate their request.

Luis Enrique, who is nominated for the Johan Cruyff Trophy (Best Coach of the Year), will likely be too busy coaching his side against Marseille to pick up his award. Other PSG players, including Vitinha, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Nuno Mendes, are also nominated for the Ballon d’Or and will miss the ceremony due to the match.
