The summer transfer window has closed and will reopen on Monday for the second time this summer.

The transfer window has closed temporarily ahead of the Club World Cup, and some fans are still confused as to why. Well, here’s why we have two transfer windows this summer and key dates for both windows.

The first transfer window opened on the 1st of June to allow clubs to sign players ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The window closed on the 10th of June 2025 and will reopen on the 16th of June. This pause allows clubs to sign players they would want to participate in the Club World Cup.

The Premier League transfer window also closes for six days due to the Premier League’s summer transfer window regulations dictating that the window must open “at midnight on the date 12 weeks prior to the date on which it is to conclude,” which is June 16.

This means that the transfer window’s reopening date is tied to its conclusion date, which is set for September 1.

When the window reopens, it will close at 7:00 PM BST on September 1, rather than the traditional 11:00 PM BST cutoff.

This change is designed to benefit club staff working on transfers, allowing them to complete deals without working excessively long hours. The new closing time is expected to bring a more manageable workload for those involved in transfer negotiations.
