Manchester United midfielder says “sometimes the connections take time” as he prepares for an improved second season
Manuel Ugarte says the Manchester United squad remain fully behind head coach Ruben Amorim.
The club are preparing for they hope will be a vastly improved season after a year with results that were far below expectations.
Amorim took charge midway through last season following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, but managed just seven league wins as United slumped to 15th, their lowest finish since 1974.
Despite the poor results, Ugarte insists the dressing room has not lost faith in the Portuguese manager.
Ugarte said: We are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach. We believe in what he wants and that is very important.”
Ugarte was signed under Ten Hag but reunited with Amorim mid-season. He had previously worked under him at Sporting.
The Uruguayan midfielder endured a mixed debut campaign for United after arriving from PSG, struggling to adapt to the speed of the Premier League and found himself unable to nail down a starting spot.
Entering his second season, Ugarte will be hoping to show why the club paid a fee rising to €60m for him.
“Last year we made some changes,” said Ugarte. “We changed our coach, we changed our formation. This year I am good, I am very excited. It is important to perform well in this club, with United.
“You have to have responsibilities when you play for United. I am very happy and we have to keep going.
“Sometimes the connections take time to get to know each other. I already know the league, the rivals, which is important.”
