Alonso has emphasised rotation but Vinicius wants to play more regularly for the club
Vinicius Junior is reportedly considering his future at Real Madrid following a public outburst during Sunday’s 2-1 clásico win over Barcelona.
The Brazilian reacted angrily after being substituted in the 72nd minute at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Madrid leading by a single goal. On his way off the pitch, Vinicius appeared to shout, “Always me! I’m leaving the team – it’s better if I leave.”
He then stormed down the tunnel, although he later returned to the bench and was involved in a scuffle between players from both sides at full-time.
Vinicius may decide to leave the club because he believes Alonso does not fully trust him, according to AS. Since Alonso arrived at the club in the summer, the Brazilian has only played a full 90 minutes three times in 18 games.
Alonso has emphasised rotation at the club, but Vinicius may justifiably point to Kylian Mbappe, who has regularly played a full 90 minutes under the Spaniard. Vinicius wants to play and perform at a Ballon d’Or level, which typically means being a regular fixture for one’s side.
Since joining from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has scored 111 goals, lifting 14 trophies, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies. Last season he scored 21 goals in 52 appearances, and in 2023-24 he netted 24 times in 39 appearances.
After the game Alonso downplayed Vinicius’s reaction.
“I’ll focus on a lot of the positive things in the game,” the coach said. “We’ll talk about [Vinicius’s reaction], of course, but I don’t want to move the spotlight away from what’s really important.
“We’ll talk about it in the context of the great game it was. Vini contributed a lot. It’s an important, deserved victory. It’s important, the feeling of being a competitive team in big games.”
