United are assessing short-term solutions in goal after Andre Onana suffered a hamstring tear at the start of pre-season
Aston Villa have rejected an approach from Manchester United to sign Emiliano Martinez on loan.
United reportedly made informal contact over the weekend to explore the possibility of signing the Argentina international on a temporary deal following the injury to Andre Onana.
The idea was quickly dismissed by Villa, who found the proposal unrealistic. The club were not only unwilling to sanction a loan, but surprised United would even suggest such terms, according to the Daily Mail.
The 32-year-old Martinez remains under contract at Villa until 2029 and is considered a key part of Unai Emery’s squad. Even if the club were under pressure from the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, they would gain nothing from loaning Martinez out and would prefer a sale with a significant fee.

The Cameroonian is expected to miss the opening weeks of the Premier League season, and the absence of a suitable cover in the squad means the club are considering a temporary signing.
Martinez was considered due to his Premier League experience but United’s tight transfer budge means a permanent move is unlikely. Villa’s swift rejection on the other hand shows they will accept nothing less than a sale.
United’s other options on that front include Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens and Botafogo’s John Victor.
