Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says he’s not placing any pressure on Trent Alexander-Arnold to decide his future, even as speculation hovers around the right-back’s next move.

The 25-year-old, whose contract is set to expire this summer, has been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid, with Fabrizio confirming that there is a contract at play already.

Alexander-Arnold made a triumphant return from injury on Sunday, scoring the only goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City.

His match-winning strike not only sealed the three points but also moved Liverpool to within touching distance of the Premier League title.

While Van Dijk recently committed his future to the club with a new deal, he said the decision for Trent lies solely with the player and his family.

“Whatever happens, it’s up to him. He’s already dealing with a lot, and I don’t want to add more pressure,” Van Dijk told reporters after the win.

The Dutchman praised Alexander-Arnold’s influence at the club over the years and said his contributions won’t be forgotten, even if he decides to depart. “He’s been a huge part of our success. If he chooses to move on, he’ll always be remembered for what he’s done here.”

Alexander-Arnold’s passionate goal celebrations showed the emotion of the moment. Van Dijk acknowledged that the defender has faced a tough few months under intense scrutiny but believes people often overlook the human side of the game.

“People forget that players go through ups and downs. Trent has been vital to us all season and continues to show that.”

Liverpool’s title hopes now hang in the balance. If Arsenal drop points against Crystal Palace midweek, Liverpool will be crowned champions. If not, they can secure the title with a win against Spurs next weekend at Anfield.

Van Dijk said the team plans to watch the Arsenal match together, but their focus remains on their own job. “We’ll be ready. Whether it’s Wednesday or Sunday, we just want to lift that trophy and make this dream a reality.”
