Barcelona are keen to move the player on permanently to raise funds for player registration
Valencia have pulled out of talks to sign forward Pau Victor after failing to reach an agreement with Barcelona over the structure of a potential transfer.
The 23-year-old had been identified as a target to strengthen Valencia’s forward line ahead of the new season, with the club initially pushing for a loan move. But discussions broke down after Barcelona insisted on a permanent sale, demanding €5m upfront and a 50 per cent sell-on clause.
Sources at Valencia described the conditions as unworkable. The club has now ended negotiations and shifted its attention to other targets.
Victor came through the ranks at Girona and joined Barcelona on loan in 2023, before signing a five-year deal with the Catalan side last summer.
However, with the signing of Marcus Rashford he will be unable to get game time, so Barcelona are keen to move him on permanently to raise funds so they can register players.
The Spanish champions are under pressure to create room in their wage bill due to La Liga’s financial rules. Without making room in their salary packet, they will be unable to register the likes of goalkeeper Joan Garcia or even Rashford.
Their financial needs were likely behind the demands that Valencia considered unacceptable.
