Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes up to nine teams have the ability to win the Premier League this season, and he’s confident his team can do it with the right mindset and preparation.
Mikel Arteta thinks the Premier League title race is going to be fiercely competitive this season, with up to nine teams capable of lifting the trophy.
The Gunners have finished second in the league for the past three seasons, but they’ve been busy in the transfer market, spending over £120m on new signings like Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Noni Madueke.
Arsenal’s squad is looking strong, with a good balance of maturity, experience, youth, and hunger. Zubimendi’s signing is particularly exciting, as he’s one of the most highly rated midfielders in Europe.
Arteta hopes Zubimendi’s quality and football intelligence will be the missing piece for an Arsenal side that’s struggled to win trophies in recent seasons.
However, Arsenal’s title rivals haven’t been idle.
Liverpool has spent over £250m, Chelsea has forked out about £200m, and Manchester City has spent over £100m on new signings. Arteta knows his team needs to improve to compete with these heavyweights. “We have to improve the players we already have, which is a massive objective,” he said.
Arteta is confident that Arsenal can win the title, despite the challenges. “Yes, I do think we can win the title this season,” he said. “It is getting more and more competitive each year. The level is increasing.” He believes his team has the right ingredients to succeed, but they need to focus on the things they can control and prepare properly for the season.
The Gunners are gearing up for a busy pre-season, with matches against AC Milan and Newcastle in the Singapore Festival of Football. Arteta wants his team to use this time to set the right fundamentals and principles, get the team ready with the best possible shape and availability, and build their strength and endurance.
With so many teams capable of winning the title, it’s going to be a thrilling season. Arteta knows that only one team can emerge victorious, but he’s determined to make Arsenal that team.
