UEFA Names Champions League Final Referee

UEFA has officially appointed Romanian referee István Kovács to officiate the 2025 UEFA Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

The match is scheduled to take place at Munich’s Allianz Arena on Saturday, May 31, with kickoff set for 20:00 BST. Kovács will be assisted by Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi.

At 40 years old, Kovács brings a wealth of experience to the role. A FIFA-listed referee since 2010 and part of UEFA’s elite since 2019, he has officiated in numerous high-profile matches across European competitions.

This appointment marks his third major UEFA final, following his roles in the 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League final between Roma and Feyenoord and the 2024 UEFA Europa League final featuring Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen.

Throughout the current Champions League season, Kovács has overseen seven matches, including the notable round-of-16 second leg between PSG and Liverpool, where PSG advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout.

His consistent performance and ability to manage high-stakes games have earned him recognition and trust from UEFA, culminating in this prestigious appointment. As PSG and Inter Milan prepare for the final, Kovács’ experience is expected to contribute to a well-officiated and memorable conclusion to the tournament.
