UEFA Announces Referees For Europa and Conference League Finals

UEFA has officially announced the referees for the 2025 UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League finals, assigning two experienced officials to oversee these significant European fixtures.

German referee Felix Zwayer will take charge of the UEFA Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, scheduled for May 21 at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain. This appointment marks Zwayer’s second UEFA final, following his role in the 2023 Nations League final between Croatia and Spain.

He will be assisted by compatriots Robert Kempter and Christian Dietz, with Italy’s Maurizio Mariani serving as the fourth official. The VAR team will include Bastian Dankert.

Zwayer’s career has been notable, though not without controversy. In 2005, he served a six-month ban for accepting a bribe to influence a match outcome while acting as a linesman. Despite this early setback, he has since reestablished himself as a respected official within UEFA, officiating high-profile matches such as England’s Euro 2024 semi-final and Arsenal’s recent Champions League semi-final.

For the UEFA Conference League final, UEFA has appointed Irfan Peljto of Bosnia and Herzegovina to officiate the match between Real Betis and Chelsea on May 28 at Wrocław Stadium in Poland. This assignment is particularly significant as Peljto becomes the first Bosnian referee to oversee a UEFA club competition final.

He will be supported by assistant referees Senad Ibrišimbegović and Davor Beljo, with the fourth official being Sandro Schärer from Switzerland. The VAR team will be led by Marco Fritz of Germany.

Peljto has been a FIFA-listed referee since 2015 and has officiated in various UEFA competitions, including the Champions League. His recent assignments include the Champions League quarter-final first leg between Arsenal and Real Madrid in April 2025.
