After losing back-to-back games as the new Tottenham coach, Igor Tudor believes the threat of relegation isn’t the real pressure for Tottenham.
Tottenham head coach Igor Tudor has urged his players to take responsibility and step up amid the threat of relegation, claiming that it’s not “real pressure” compared to other professions.
Tudor’s side has lost two games since he replaced Thomas Frank, and they’re just four points off the drop zone. He acknowledges the situation is tough, but believes his players need to accept the pressure and perform.
“Everyone understands the situation. My job is to put the pressure away but their job is to accept the pressure is there,” Tudor said. He emphasized that people in other jobs, like doctors, face real pressure, and Tottenham players should be able to handle the situation.
Tudor didn’t hide his anger after the Fulham defeat, and some have criticized him for not building confidence in his players. However, he believes it’s essential to not accept low standards. “To not accept defeat as something normal. That’s the reason,” he explained.
The Croatian coach is looking for his players to take responsibility and show courage. “Take responsibility. Have the courage to confront these things. This is the best way to do it, the only way to do it,” he said.
Tudor is confident his players have the quality to turn things around. “In this moment, we need to recognise this and believe we have the quality to do it,” he added.
Tottenham face Crystal Palace on Thursday, and Tudor will be looking for a much-needed win to get his side’s season back on track.
