England manager Thomas Tuchel has challenged Bukayo Saka to translate his impressive Arsenal form to the international stage.
Bukayo Saka has become Arsenal’s leading scorer in England history, but the accomplishment has done little to impress the Three Lions’ manager, Thomas Tuchel.
Saka netted in England’s 3-0 friendly win over Wales, taking his goal tally to 13 in 45 games for the national team. However, Tuchel believes that Saka can do more and has set him a tough challenge to improve his international form.
Tuchel’s expectations are high, and he believes that Saka has the talent, attitude, and stamina to be a top player at the international level. “How many goals did he score for England? 13? One three? It has to be more, it’s not enough,” Tuchel said, emphasizing that Saka needs to keep pushing himself to reach new heights.
Saka has been finding his feet after an injury-hit start to the season with Arsenal. The winger has been limited to just five starts so far this year due to a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined for several games. However, he’s been impressive in his recent appearances, scoring in the last three games, including the goal against Wales.
Despite the challenges he’s faced, Saka is positive about his progress and is excited about the prospect of continuing to score goals for England.
“I started this season by picking up an injury, which kind of killed me a bit, but I’m starting to feel good again,” he said. “I’m still not at my sharpest, but I’m starting to feel good again, and I’ve scored in the last three games, so I’m happy with that.”
Tuchel’s challenge to Saka is clear: he wants the young winger to translate his impressive form for Arsenal to the international stage. With his talent, attitude, and work ethic, Tuchel believes that Saka has the potential to be a top player for England.
“We can just encourage him to be influential, like he was today,” Tuchel said. “Next game, he needs to try to repeat it.”
