“No limits!”: Treble in Sight for Inter after Bayern Knockout

Inter Milan squad celebrating at the San Siro in the match against Bayern Munich

Inter drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich at the San Siro to progress to the Champions League semi-finals and keep treble hopes alive

Inter Milan stood resolute on the night as wave after wave of Bayern attack landed in their penalty area.

The Italian side are not the best defensive team in the Champions League this season for nothing. They have conceded the fewest goals (5) and kept the most clean sheets (8) of any other team in Europe’s elite competition.

Interestingly, however, three of those five goals conceded in 12 games came in the two legs against Bayern. Barcelona might argue that they boast even greater firepower than the Bavarians.

But with Inter having eliminated the German league leaders, they will be looking to down one or two more table toppers before claiming the big prize.

The Nerazzurri are also top of the Serie A and they remain in the Coppa Italia, so the march for a treble continues. The club achieved the feat in 2010, in a historic season with Jose Mourinho.

As disciplined as this current Inter team are in defence, and then fielding two natural strikers in Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez – both excellent at holding the ball up – there’s no reason why that story cannot be told of them come the end of the season.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Benjamin Parvard, who scored to put Inter ahead before Eric Dier’s equaliser, declared that his side would work hard to win it all.

“I’m happy for the team for reaching an important milestone like the semifinal,” said Parvard. “We suffered a lot on the pitch. We knew that one of the keys to the game would be the defence. We did our job very well. Then when a defender also turns striker, it’s even better.

“We don’t set ourselves limits. Since we have come this far we want to move forward.”
