Spurs want Mbeumo to remain in London under former manager Thomas Frank; club hoping to also sign Yoane Wissa
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks over the potential signing of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with new manager Thomas Frank wasting no time in targeting reinforcements from his former club.
Mbeumo is on Manchester United’s radar, with an offer worth up to £55 million already rejected by Brentford. The West London side are holding out for over £60 million and will sanction a sale either Spurs or United if a suitable deal is reached.
The 25-year-old Mbeumo was brought to Brentford by Frank in 2019 for just £5.8m and has become one of the Premier League’s most notable names, scoring 20 goals last season to finish as the fourth highest goalscorer. He is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford, but Spurs hope Frank’s close relationship with the Cameroon international could tip the scales in their favour.
Wissa, who netted 19 Premier League goals last season, is another name on Spurs’ list. Nottingham Forest showed interest in the 28-year-old in January and remain keen, but Brentford are unlikely to accept less than the £40m proposed by Forest.
Both players have one year left on their contracts but Brentford have an option to extend a further year, which means they have enough leverage to try and pit Spurs against United to work out the best deal for themselves.
