Tottenham could part ways with Thomas Frank after their Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, regardless of the result.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to dismiss head coach Thomas Frank following today’s Champions League encounter with Borussia Dortmund, with the European fixture likely to mark his final game in charge.

Sources close to the club have said that although Frank’s position has been under review for several weeks, the club opted to delay any decision until after the Dortmund match due to the fragile state of the squad.

Tottenham head into the tie severely short-handed, with Frank reportedly having only eleven fit outfield players available because of injuries, suspensions and eligibility issues. The club felt it would have been unreasonable to appoint a new manager under such difficult circumstances.

On Monday, Frank held what he described as an amicable lunch meeting with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and Nick Beucher, the influential son-in-law of co-owner Vivienne Lewis. Despite the cordial tone, the consensus remains that his time is running out.

Several figures within Tottenham’s hierarchy are understood to believe Frank should have been dismissed as far back as last month, though Venkatesham has remained his strongest internal supporter during the club’s prolonged struggles.

Even so, sources suggest it would take an extraordinary turnaround to save Frank’s job, with an official announcement on his future potentially coming as early as Wednesday.

If Frank does depart, Johnny Heitinga is expected to take over as interim head coach just days after joining as a first-team assistant, while the club has already begun exploring high-profile long-term options, including Mauricio Pochettino and Xavi Hernandez.
