Tottenham Hotspur have initiated discussions for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, with Arsenal also in the running for the talented winger.
Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Crystal Palace over a potential move for winger Eberechi Eze, whose £68 million release clause expires soon.
The North London club are pushing to sign Eze before Arsenal can make a move, but the Gunners’ delay in attack sales has given Spurs an opportunity to act on their longstanding interest.
Arsenal’s hesitation comes from their need to offload unwanted players, including Leandro Trossard and Fábio Vieira, before pursuing Eze. This delay has allowed Tottenham to step up their pursuit, with new manager Thomas Frank seeking attacking additions after losing James Maddison to a long-term knee injury and missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White.
Eze, who left Arsenal’s academy at 13, has reportedly favored a move to the Gunners over Spurs. Despite this, Tottenham is confident in their ability to secure the deal, although they do not intend to meet Eze’s £68 million release clause. The club can offer Eze the chance to play in the Champions League, having won the Europa League last season.
Crystal Palace, who recently lost their appeal to be reinstated to the Europa League, will want to hold onto their star player. If Eze’s release clause expires, Palace is expected to demand a significant fee upfront to find a suitable replacement. Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss is reportedly a target for the Eagles.
