Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Everton

Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 win over Everton sees them move into third place in the Premier League, with Micky van de Ven scoring a double from set pieces

Tottenham Hotspur moved into third place in the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Everton, who suffered their first defeat at their new stadium.

Captain Micky van de Ven led from the front, scoring a double from set pieces, and Pape Sarr added a late third for Thomas Frank’s side.

Van de Ven’s goals came from headers, and he is now the team’s top scorer with five goals. The Dutch defender’s double was a result of good set-piece routines and poor marking from Everton. Spurs boss Thomas Frank handed Randal Kolo Muani his first start, but Van de Ven was the biggest threat.

Everton dominated possession but created little from open play. Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish, the returning winger, were Everton’s best players, but they were often double-marked and unable to create danger in the middle.

The home side’s closest chance came when Beto miscontrolled Ndiaye’s cross to Grealish, whose goalbound shot was blocked almost on the line by Pedro Porro. Everton’s struggles continued, and they conceded two goals from corners in the first half.

The second half saw Everton push for an equalizer, but Spurs’ defense held firm. Ndiaye had a couple of chances, but his shots were either wide or deflected. The game was effectively over when Van de Ven scored his second goal, and Sarr added a late third.

The win is a significant boost for Spurs, who have now taken 13 points from a possible 15 on the road. They are now within five points of leaders Arsenal.
