Tottenham Hotspur are nearing a loan deal for Bayern Munich’s João Palhinha, with an option to buy the midfielder for £26 million.

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing João Palhinha from Bayern Munich on a loan deal with an option to buy.

The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder has agreed to personal terms with Spurs, and negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage.

Palhinha’s experience playing for Fulham in the Premier League makes him a suitable fit for Tottenham. During his two-year stint at Craven Cottage, he made 68 top-flight appearances, showcasing his ability to break up opposition attacks and shield the defense. His talent and leadership could be invaluable assets for Thomas Frank’s side.

The loan deal, which includes an option to buy Palhinha for around €30 million (£25.9 million), reflects Bayern Munich’s willingness to negotiate after his underwhelming season.

Palhinha’s limited playing time and injuries at Bayern Munich have made him eager to seek new opportunities. Tottenham’s interest in him is driven by the need to bolster their midfield, particularly after a disappointing 17th-place finish in the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Palhinha’s signing would complement Tottenham’s recent transfers, including Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55 million and the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. With the addition of Palhinha, Spurs aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, featuring in the Champions League and domestic cups. His ability to read the game and intercept passes could be crucial in enhancing Tottenham’s midfield stability.
