Tottenham Hotspur ended their five-game winless run in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Brentford.

Tottenham Hotspur ended their five-game winless run in the Premier League with a much-needed 2-0 win over Brentford.

In the 25th minute, Tottenham took the lead through Richarlison, who tapped in from Xavi Simons’ squared ball. Simons, the summer signing, had raced onto Pedro Porro’s perfectly-weighted pass in behind the Brentford backline to set up the goal.

Simons soon turned from provider to scorer, netting his first goal for the club with a superb solo effort in the closing stages of a commanding first period. After winning possession back in his own half, Simons motored up the pitch and into the box before slotting a low shot out of Caoimhin Kelleher’s reach.

Brentford’s Igor Thiago had earlier tested Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who made an important save to thwart the in-form striker. The Bees continued to push for a goal in the second half, but Tottenham’s defence held strong.

Nathan Collins almost gifted Tottenham a third goal, but Kelleher made a strong save to bail out his teammate. The game ended 2-0 in favour of Tottenham.

The win lifts Tottenham to eighth in the table. For Brentford, it’s a fourth consecutive pointless road trip, and they drop to 14th in the table.

Xavi Simons’ goal was a special moment for the summer signing, and it’s clear that he’s settling in well at the club. Tottenham will be looking to build on this momentum in their next match, while Brentford will be hoping to bounce back from this defeat.
