Midfielder scored the decisive goal as the Netherlands extend unbeaten run to 13 games
Manchester City’s Tijjani Reijnders scored the winning goal as the Netherlands came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 in Amsterdam.
Norway took the lead in the 24th minute through Andreas Schjelderup, who produced a solo effort to break the deadlock. The hosts responded before halftime, with captain Virgil van Dijk heading in an equaliser from a corner.
The Netherlands completed the turnaround early in the second half when Reijnders finished from close range after a move involving Cody Gakpo and Denzel Dumfries.
Norway were without Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, and struggled to respond as the Dutch controlled much of the second half. A late chance from Crystal Palace’s Jorgen Strand Larsen was kept out by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
The win extends the Netherlands’ unbeaten run to 13 matches as they continue preparations for this summer’s World Cup in North America, where they will face Japan, Tunisia and either Poland or Sweden in the group stage.
“Overall, we played a good match against a good opponent,” Van Dijk said.
“I thought we were better in the second half, partly because they were a bit more tired. Ultimately, we had enough chances to score more goals. Defensively, we were also solid. We won deservedly and now we move on.”
