Tottenham boss Thomas Frank praises his team’s mentality and character after coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.
Frank highlighted the positives from the match, saying that his team’s ability to stay in the game and keep fighting earned them a valuable point away from home.
The match was a challenging one for Tottenham, with Bodo/Glimt taking a 2-0 lead in the second half. However, Micky van de Ven’s header and an own goal from Jostein Gundersen helped Tottenham to level the score.
Frank was pleased with his team’s response after going two goals down, emphasizing the importance of showing mentality and character in such situations.
Frank also acknowledged that Bodo/Glimt were the better team in the first half, but his side improved significantly after going 2-0 down. “They were better than us in the first half, it was clear to see,” Frank said.
“They are exceptionally good at what they do and are very well coached. But I think after 2-0 we got into the game and were the best team in the latter part of the game.”
Despite the underwhelming display, Frank refused to use the conditions or artificial surface as an excuse. “I don’t want to complain about the surface, it is what it is,” he said. “We could have kept the ball better, no doubt about that. Sometimes it is what happens on the day. We just need to keep trying to do the right thing.”
The Tottenham boss also defended Richarlison after the Brazilian’s quiet evening, suggesting that the issues ran deeper than the striker’s individual performance.
“First half, we could have kept the ball better, but that was not only on Richarlison,” Frank said. “Perhaps it was a bit to do with the structure of the team. I’m in no doubt that we will improve.”
Frank’s team now has four points from two games in the Champions League, and he believes that this is a good start. “To take four points from two games is good,” he added. “Also today when we get a point, it’s a fine start. We need to work from here.”
The draw against Bodo/Glimt was a test of Tottenham’s character, and Frank believes that his team showed the right mentality in responding to adversity. This mentality will be crucial as Tottenham continues their campaign in the Champions League, with their next match against AS Monaco on October 22, 2025.
