Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League has eased the pressure on manager Thomas Frank, who had been under fire after a string of poor domestic results.
Thomas Frank hailed the victory as “magic” and proof that everyone at the club is working towards the same goal.
The Dane’s side dominated the first half, with goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke securing a 2-0 lead. Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson was sent off early in the game, making it easier for Spurs to control the match. Frank praised the team’s effort, saying, “That energy between the fans and the players was magic.”
Frank’s future had been in doubt after Tottenham’s loss to West Ham, with fans chanting “sacked in the morning”. However, the win over Dortmund has given him some breathing room. “I think it’s about the team and everything, but of course I understand the question,” Frank said, adding that he feels the staff, players, and ownership are all on the same page.
The victory lifts Tottenham into the top eight automatic qualification places, and Frank is hopeful of building on this momentum. “We need to keep that consistency and turn that a little bit,” he said. “As I say, some of the other games we easily could have won.”
Tottenham will look to maintain their winning streak when they face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday. Frank is aware that the team needs to keep performing well to secure his position. “The big thing is to build on this with a performance and a win against Burnley,” he said.
When asked on how he will celebrate, Thomas Frank said: “I think two big glasses of red will be necessary, I will enjoy that”.
