The final day of the Premier League season is upon us, and while there’s a lot at stake, the Premier League Golden Glove award is up for grabs.
The Premier League Golden Glove is one of the three awards given by the Premier League every season, and this season’s awards is a fierce race that can go either way.
The award is given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Premier League every season. This season, we have seen impressive performances by Premier League keepers with certain ‘big names’ showing why they’re worth their price.
While the keepers in the big clubs have shown their class, others from ‘smaller’ clubs have contributed to their team’s performance this season and earned their place among the top goalies in the Premier League.
The Golden Glove for this season lies between two names, David Raya of Arsenal and Matt Sels of Nottingham Forest.
Both keepers are tied with 13 clean sheets this season and have just one more match to add to their tally. Raya faces already relegated Southampton while Sels face a Chelsea attack that is hungry for Champions League football.
Both keepers will be looking to secure a clean sheet and three points as well but there’s a bit of history at play in this golden glove race.
Raya will join an elite company of goalkeepers which includes Pepe Reina, Joe Hart and Ederson who have won it back to back times as he’s won it in the 2023/24 season where he amassed a total of 16 saves.
For Sels, he’ll be making Premier League history if he wins it as no goalkeeper from outside of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd have won the award since its launch in 2004/05.
