It was a one-man show from Raya against Newcastle United.
If anybody rightly deserved the Man of the Match award in Arsenal’s match against Newcastle United, it was David Raya. Winning the Man of the Match award just showed how impressive he was for the entire 90 minutes. He just couldn’t be beaten.
In the first half, he made a good number of saves, some were too good to be true. He pulled all the stops in that first half to deny Newcastle from going ahead. He flung himself at every corner, and Arsenal fans surely will be grateful to their Spanish shot-stopper.
Arsenal went on to win the game thanks to a goal from Declan Rice in the 55th minute. Rice’s strike was the difference between the two teams and enough to give Arsenal fans. This win also put them back in second place and guaranteed a place in the Champions League next season.
This clean sheet against Newcastle is Raya’s 13th clean sheet in the Premier League this season, putting him level with Matt Sels in the race for the Golden Glove award in the Premier League. He just needs to keep a clean sheet in his next game to take home the award.
