Ter Stegen still has three years left in his contract at the club, but with the player not in Flick’s plans a move to Galatasaray may prove attractive
Galatasaray have emerged as serious contenders to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with the Turkish giants ready to offer the German star a fresh challenge away from Catalonia.
The 33-year-old, who has been a mainstay at Barcelona since his arrival in 2014, faces an uncertain future despite having a contract until 2028.
The Catalan club are open to his departure following his falling-out with manager Hansi Flick. The goalkeeping department is ready for a new season without Ter Stegen, with Espanyol’s Joan Garcia close to completing a €25 million deal to join Barcelona and Wojciech Szczęsny lined up as a backup.
Ter Stegen has been a key figure for Barcelona over the past decade, but injuries disrupted his campaign last season. After his return to the squad, his reaction to being left out of the squad in the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan led to a disagreement with Flick.
Galatasaray, fresh off a Super Lig title and with Champions League football secured, are prepared to offer Ter Stegen a prominent role. Their interest follows reported approaches from AC Milan for Ter Stegen, but the Turkish champions now appear to be leading the race.
Despite Barcelona’s willingness to listen to offers, Ter Stegen still has three years left in his contract at the club and has not expressed any desire to leave.
However, a move to Galatasaray might be attractive for the Germany international. It would provide him with regular minutes, as well as the chance to play in the Champions League.
