Today’s victory was a crucial one for Chelsea in the race for the top 4. Enzo Maresca’s men gave the fans a happy thought on Easter Sunday.
Here are three talking points from the game.
Chelsea Looked Lost in The First Half
This is not the first, second or third time. It’s a regular occurrence throughout the season, especially since December. The Blues almost always look lost in the first half, and it’s a big problem for Enzo Maresca. Chelsea have gone more than 8 games without a first-half goal, and today again, they failed to respond to Fulham after conceding in the first half. It is safe to say that they are a second-half team.
James Needs To Play At RB
Don’t get me wrong, Reece James is a fantastic player, one of the best in his position (RB), and that’s where he should be. The few stints in midfield and inversion, as seen this season with Cucurella and Gusto, haven’t really worked for James. For the team, he’ll be more effective adding more options down the wing, which they lacked today or doing his defensive duties.
Jackson Needs To Convert
This has been the story all season, and you can’t go a single game without saying it. Jackson offers the team a lot offensively, but he’s lacking one thing: the finishing touch. He had a few chances where he could’ve gone all in and maybe just gotten a goal, but he didn’t have that belief. With the transfer window opening soon, Chelsea may be forced to get another striker, even though Maresca says he’s content with Jackson.
One comment
[…] Maresca seems to trust his striker and to an extent, the Senegalese forward looks like a perfect fit for the Chelsea set up despite his lack of clinical finishing. […]
