The Bayern defender shoved a ballboy in annoyance, but the incident went unpunished
Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic pushed a ballboy off his stool in his team’s 2-2 draw against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday.
Bayern needed a win to remain in the competition after losing 2-1 at home, but late in the game the score was still level.
As Bayern applied pressure near stoppage time, the ball went out for a throw and Stanisic went to collect. But an Inter Milan ballboy threw it away from him to delay the restart.
The Bayern defender shoved him off his stool, and annoyed, the Inter Milan players leapt off the bench and confronted him. However, the matter was quickly resolved and the referee chose not to punish Stanisic.
Speaking after the game, the 25-year-old Croatia international admitted that it was silly of him.
“Every team in the world wastes time when they’re leading,” said Stanisic. “It was a bit stupid of me to push him there.”
Bayern were ultimately eliminated from the Champions League as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
