Pundit says defender’s poor performances making the players around him worse

Liverpool left-back Milos Kerkez is “struggling” and needs to be dropped from the squad immediately, pundit Clinton Morrison has said.

Kerkez is one of several Liverpool players who have been underperforming as the club lost their third straight Premier League game, and fourth in all competitions, against Manchester United at Anfield.

The 21-year-old joined Liverpool from Bournemouth in the summer for around £40m but is yet to justify that investment. He endured a torrid game against impressive United duo Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo.

Morrison said Kerkez’s poor form was affecting his teammates.

“It was probably one of the only Liverpool games that I’ve watched and thought Van Dijk looked rattled, especially in the first half,” said Morrison.

“It’s because he is having to cover Milos Kerkez, who I think right now has to come out of the team.

“He is struggling and does not look like he can carry that Liverpool shirt at the moment. Amad [Diallo] and Mbeumo were causing him a lot of problems down that side.

“It was actually Konate who was bailing Van Dijk out, which doesn’t happen often. He was the best defender for Liverpool in this game.”
