Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has thrown his weight behind Ange Postecoglou, urging the club to keep the Australian manager at the helm following their emotional Europa League victory.

Spurs captain Son Heung-min was handed his first career trophy after Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Manchester United. He became the first Korean to captain his club to an European trophy. While emotions were high, the Tottenham captain took time to appreciate his manager while encouraging the club to keep the Australian.

Postecoglou’s future had been uncertain, with speculation surrounding his potential departure despite leading the team to European glory.

Son’s sentiments were echoed by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who revealed that Postecoglou had played role in compiling a motivational video featuring messages from family members of each squad member before the match. Vicario praised Postecoglou, saying, “He said this group is going to change something. It’s going to change the history of this football club, and we did it. Credit to him. He was the first to start believing in something special, and we did it.”

The victory marked a historic moment for Tottenham, ending a 17-year trophy drought and securing their first European success since 1984. Postecoglou’s leadership and vision were instrumental in the team’s triumph, and Son believes that the manager deserves credit for his role in bringing the trophy to the club.

Despite Postecoglou’s tumultuous season, which included periods of intense scrutiny and pressure, Son and Vicario’s comments suggest that the players have faith in their manager’s abilities. With Postecoglou’s future still uncertain, the club will hope to retain his services, given his success in bringing European silverware to Tottenham.

Postecoglou’s own words after the match, stating that his job is “not done,” hinted at his desire to continue leading the team. As the club weighs its options, the players’ support for Postecoglou could play a significant role in determining his future at Tottenham. Ultimately, the decision will depend on the club and the manager as well on whether both parties can continue working together to build on the momentum generated by this European triumph.
