Right-back sustained an injury last month and has missed four games so far

Liverpool defender Jeremie Frimpong will be out for at least another week as he continues to recover from a groin injury.

The defender was injured in the Champions League game against Qarabag last month and has since missed four games. Liverpool have had no recognised right-back since then and instead played with Wataru Endo, who also got injured last week, and Curtis Jones, who started in the position against Sunderland last week.

Frimpong has been on and off the pitch with injuries since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. Before then the Dutchman had an outstanding injury record.

The right-back position has been an area of concern for Liverpool since Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid last summer. Conor Bradley and Frimpong, the two specialist options for the position, have been kept out injury problems.

Bradley impressed in the area but sustained a knee injury when Liverpool faced Arsenal in January, ruling him out of season. The Northern Ireland international has since had successful surgery on the knee but is not expected to be back in action until next season.

Arne Slot has played a number of midfielders at right-back so far, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones having both featured there. The latter started there against Brighton and scored the opening goal, although he was unsteady and was guilty of a slip-up that could have led to a Brighton goal.

Last week, Slot expressed his frustration at Liverpool’s lack of luck in that position, saying “you can hardly believe what this right-full back position brings us this season”.
