Liverpool’s head coach praises winger for handling the decision well

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said Mohamed Salah was unhappy with being dropped from the starting XI against West Ham on Sunday.

Slot left Salah on the bench in Sunday’s 2-0 win against the London side, the first time he had dropped the Egyptian in a league game since he took over the reins last year.

“It’s a normal reaction from a player that is good enough to play for us,” Slot said. “He has been so outstanding for this club for so many years and will be for the future.

“He wasn’t happy he wasn’t starting but he wasn’t the only one.”

Liverpool’s head coach praised the winger for handling the decision quite well.

“The way he behaved was as you’d expect from such a professional – he supported his teammates and handled himself really well.”

In Salah’s absence, teammates Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz stepped up, with Isak opening the scoring for Liverpool with his first league goal for the club. Liverpool can start searching for momentum with a successive league win when they face Sunderland on Wednesday, but Isak is a doubt for that game.

Slot said: “He told me yesterday he felt a bit of cramp coming up already, so we will see how he trains.”
