Gary Neville has criticised Igor Tudor’s short tenure at Tottenham, calling it a “car crash” after the club’s heavy defeat to Atletico Madrid and poor recent results.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Tottenham Hotspur should seriously consider ending Igor Tudor’s tenure after a disastrous start to his time at the club.
Tudor’s position has come under intense pressure following four consecutive defeats, including Tuesday’s heavy 5-2 loss to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. The defeat has left Tottenham’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals hanging by a thread.
One of the most controversial moments of the match came when Tudor selected reserve goalkeeper Antonín Kinský ahead of regular starter Guglielmo Vicario. After two costly errors, the young keeper was substituted just 17 minutes into the game with Spurs already trailing 3-0.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville described the situation as harsh and poorly handled. He said the treatment of Kinsky was brutal and suggested the entire situation surrounding the team’s recent performances had become chaotic.
Neville also criticised Tudor’s post-match comments, arguing that the manager should have accepted responsibility for the decision to start Kinsky instead of Vicario. According to Neville, Tudor instead appeared to defend his decision rather than admit it had been a mistake.
Tudor was only appointed a few weeks ago following the dismissal of Thomas Frank, but Neville believes the club cannot afford to wait if they want to turn their season around.
With Tottenham hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone in the Premier League, Neville insisted that if the club plans to make another managerial change, it should happen immediately to give the team a chance to stabilise before the situation worsens.
Adding to this, there are rumours that the Tottenham board are already discussing Tudor’s future at the club. The club has also reportedly contacted Ange Postecoglou concerning a return.
