Should Onana Be Blamed For The Goal In The UEL Final?

Manchester United Goalkeeper, Andre Onana

Once again, Andre Onana has become the subject matter after a Manchester United defeat but does he really deserve the blame for this one.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. A win here could’ve salvaged their season but the football script had Tottenham rewriting history. One man was again getting a lot of criticism from fans, you know the name, Andre Onana.

Onana, who has faced a lot of criticism for his performances this season, was once again in the spotlight after the way he conceded the lone goal in the final.

Onana was beaten by a very small margin after Sarr’s cross into the box was poked into the net by Johnson. The goal was a scrappy one because Johnson had almost missed the ball but Shaw’s hand controlled it into his path before swiftly poking into the back of the net.

Onana was helpless, the goal was beyond his control. Luck just happened to be on Tottenham’s side yesterday night, and the Cameroonian goalkeeper was unfortunate to have conceded the way he did. While there’s talk of him having poor reflexes, the goal was a typical mishap in the box that 99 out of 100 times leads to a goal.

Manchester United fans have complained all season about their goalkeeper, and there are talks about the club getting a new one. For Onana, this final is just one of many unfortunate events in his career and his time at Manchester United may be hanging in the balance as the club decides on the way forward.
