News reports have confirmed that Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze.
It’s no news that Eze has always favoured a move to Arsenal, and when the Gunners came calling, days after he had agreed to secure a move to Tottenham, Eze switched allegiances in an instant.
It was inevitable, Eze moving away from Crystal Palace. Seeing that Olise had moved to Bayern Munich, it was only a matter of time before his big transfer came, but the timing feels a bit off.
Arsenal had declined to sign Eze because they didn’t have a clear plan on where to use him. Arsenal had hoped to see Trossard leave the club to make space for Eze, but bidding for him just before he penned a deal with Tottenham feels like a panic buy.
Do Arsenal really need Eze? I mean, which club wouldn’t want surplus requirements, but can he change the game for Arsenal while gaining ample playing time for himself? Paul Merson seems to think Eze is the answer.
On paper, it doesn’t look like Eze would be a starter as Martinelli has the left wing on lock, even if he doesn’t deliver every week. With Trossard signing a new contract, Arsenal have a backup option.
Eze would most likely fill in for Odegaard on days where the Norwegian runs out of ideas, and with various competitions this season, he will be a good arsenal to have on the roster. Whether he gets ample game time is completely out of the question. He is now Arsenal’s gem, and hopefully, he can bring his title-winning skills to North London and spur the Gunners to silverware.
