Serie A Matches Postponed Following the Death of Pope Francis

All Serie A matches scheduled for Monday, April 21, 2025, have been postponed following the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88.

The Vatican announced that the Pope had passed away due to complications from double pneumonia. In response, the Lega Serie A and the Italian Football Federation suspended all professional football activities for the day as a mark of respect.

The postponed fixtures include Torino vs. Udinese, Cagliari vs. Fiorentina, Genoa vs. Lazio, and Parma vs. Juventus.

Additionally, three Primavera 1 youth matches—Roma vs. Udinese, Monza vs. Sassuolo, and Sampdoria vs. Torino—were also called off. New dates for these matches will be announced in due course.

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, has served as the head of the Roman Catholic Church since 2013.

He was known for his humility, advocacy for the marginalized, and efforts to modernize the Church. A lifelong football enthusiast and supporter of San Lorenzo, his death has elicited tributes from across the footballing world.
