Striker believes game will improve in “tricky season” once he and teammates understand each other
Mohamed Salah has said he is “so proud” to have reached 250 goals for Liverpool, but admitted he is not satisfied with his performances this season.
The Egyptian forward reached the milestone when he opened the scoring for his side in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield.
Salah pounced on an error from Emiliano Martinez to put his side ahead in stoppage time of the first period, before Ryan Gravenberch sealed the result in the second half.
“It is a great feeling to score goals and win trophies for such a big club,” said Salah. “It is something I don’t take for granted. I am so proud, so happy about it.”
Salah’s goal was his fourth in 10 games in the league this season, somewhat below his high standards. He has also looked off pace so far this campaign and wasted several clear chances.
His poor performance led to his being left out of the starting lineup in Liverpool’s Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this month, although the decision may also have been attempt by Arne Slot to rest the 33-year-old.
Asked if he was satisfied with his performances, Salah said: “No, but I know football. I have played football for many years.
“I said at the beginning it is a very tricky season for us. We have a few new players, very good signings, but they need time to adapt to the team and we lost a few good players as well.
“We just need time to adapt and know each other’s games and we will be fine.”
Liverpool’s victory over Villa ended a run of four Premier League defeats for Arne Slot’s side and lifted them back into the top four.
“It was very important,” said Salah. “We have had a few losses in the Premier League and the Champions League, but I am glad we started coming back now.
“And it is a good result before some very important games against Madrid and City. It was a very important win for us today.”
