Assist for Ekitike took Salah to 277 combined goals and assists for Liverpool
Mohamed Salah came back to the Liverpool squad this weekend to set a Premier League record with his assist for Hugo Ekitike’s second goal in the win over Brighton at Anfield.
The Egypt forward was introduced early in the first half after Joe Gomez was forced off injured, receiving a warm reception from the home crowd after he was dropped and faced serious criticism for his outburst against the club and manager Arne Slot last weekend.
With Liverpool already in front, Salah delivered a corner in the second half that Ekitike headed home to seal a 2-0 victory.
The assist took Salah to 277 combined goals and assists for Liverpool in the Premier League, moving him clear of Wayne Rooney as the league’s most productive player for a single club.
Salah came close to adding a goal late on when Federico Chiesa picked him out in the box, but his first-time effort flew wildly over the bar.
“I spoke to him yesterday and I never say anything about what we talk about, but actions speak louder than words,” Slot said about restoring Salah to the team.
“He was back in the squad and when I had to make my first substitution I brought him in, and he performed as every fan, including me, would like him to.”
