Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior confirms Marc Cucurella will miss the FA Cup clash with Hull after suffering a hamstring issue against Leeds, but hopes the left-back will not be sidelined for long.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior is anxiously awaiting further medical updates on Marc Cucurella after the Spaniard was forced off at half-time during the 2-2 draw with Leeds United.

The left-back was replaced by youngster Jorrel Hato in what initially appeared to be a tactical decision, but it was later revealed to be injury-related.

At the time, the substitution raised eyebrows, particularly given Cucurella’s influence in the first half. Chelsea struggled to maintain control after the break, and it was difficult not to wonder whether the experienced Spaniard’s presence might have helped steady the side as Leeds mounted their comeback.

Speaking after the match, Rosenior confirmed that Cucurella had “felt something” in his hamstring. words that rarely signal good news for players or fans.

With less than 24 hours having passed since the incident, there is understandably no definitive diagnosis yet. Rosenior admitted it is too early to determine the severity of the problem but confirmed that Cucurella will miss Friday’s FA Cup fixture against Hull City.

“For Marc, it’s too early to know. Obviously, he’s definitely out for the game against Hull. We’re just doing our scans and assessments on him and hopefully he’s not too long,” the Chelsea boss said.

The timing is concerning. While the FA Cup tie may allow for rotation, Chelsea are set to return to the intensity of Premier League action shortly after, alongside the looming challenge of the Champions League knockout rounds. Losing a first-choice full-back at this stage of the campaign would represent a significant blow.

Cucurella has largely been a model of durability over the past two seasons, ranking among the squad’s leaders in minutes played. Aside from a minor hamstring twinge around the new year, when Malo Gusto stepped in, he has been consistently available, offering reliability on the left flank both defensively and in build-up play.

For Rosenior and Chelsea, the hope is that this latest setback is a minor one.
