Sweden international opens up on his lack of playing time at “dream” club
Roony Bardghji has admitted frustration over his limited role at Barcelona, saying he believes he should be playing more regularly.
The 20-year-old joined Barcelona last summer but has struggled for consistent starts, making just four La Liga starts so far this season. The winger has been forced to wait due to competition in the squad, with Raphinha, Marcus Rashford and Lamine Yamal all ahead of him in the pecking order.
“The truth is that up until now I’ve had very little playing time,” Bardghji said on international duty with Sweden. “I’m patient, but honestly, I think I deserved to play more.
“I’m not 100% happy, but that’s football. I have the utmost respect for those who have been in the squad for a long time; they’re my teammates. I know what I can do, and I have a lot of confidence in myself.
“It has always been my dream to play for Barca. When I won my first trophy it was fantastic, a great feeling.”
Barcelona considered sending Bardghji out on loan during the winter transfer window but ultimately decided to keep him. Since the turn of the year, he has made nine appearances, including starts against Athletic Club in the Super Cup, Slavia Prague in the Champions League and Sevilla in La Liga.
