Ex-United boss ready to win more trophies at Bayer Leverkusen

Former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has said Cristiano Ronaldo was “never the problem” during his tenure at Manchester United.

Ten Hag was appointed during Ronaldo’s second spell at the club and tensions soon rose between him and the famous forward, until Ronaldo eventually left the club in late 2022.

Asked about it nearly three years later, Ten Hag waved it away.

“For me he’s no problem. He was never the problem and I think that’s the past,” said the Dutch manager.

“It’s in the past, and after that we won two trophies at Manchester United. I wish him all the best for the for the future and I wish him the best of luck.”

Despite the ugly and disappointing end to his tenure at Manchester United, Ten Hag won two trophies in his two full seasons at the club. He has also won a trophy every season of his career in the top-flight.

Based on that record, the 55-year-old has been brought back to the dugout this summer as the manager of German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Ten Hag said: “I love to win trophies and that is what I’m doing all my career and I want to keep this process going and that is my challenge with Leverkusen to do the same.

“I’m looking forward and I’m really happy to be back. I’m really enjoying the last couple of weeks. We have a good club, we have a good team and we will improve.”
