Roma have confirmed the signing of Donyell Malen from Aston Villa
AS Roma have officially completed the signing of Aston Villa forward Donyell Malen, bringing the Netherlands international to the Stadio Olimpico during the January transfer window.
However, there remains uncertainty surrounding the exact structure of the deal. Aston Villa announced the move as a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee, while Roma’s official statement described the agreement as a loan with an option to buy, creating confusion over the final terms.
Malen joins the Giallorossi just one year after making the switch to Villa from Borussia Dortmund, a move that had raised expectations but ultimately failed to secure him a consistent starting role under Unai Emery.
Despite limited opportunities, the 26-year-old still managed to score seven goals across all competitions this season, though only five of his 21 appearances came as a starter in the Premier League.
Roma will now hope Malen’s pace, versatility and experience at top European level can add much-needed firepower to their attack as they push for success in the second half of the season.
