Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho is on Roma’s radar, but can the move actually happen?

The Italian club made an official £20m bid for the winger last week, but talks have stalled despite Manchester United making clear they are ready to let him go.

United are willing to sanction the 25-year-old’s departure for around the quoted figure, but the deal is being held up by Sancho’s salary demands.

Sancho earns around €15m (£12m) a year at Old Trafford, a figure Roma cannot match. The Serie A side have tabled a long-term contract worth €4.5m per season plus bonuses, with incremental increases built in over five years. But that still represents a significant cut compared to Sancho’s current earnings.

United are ready to part ways, having frozen the winger and three others out of their pre-season squad this summer. They also want to move him on permanently before his contract expires in 2026. Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but the London club opted not to sign him permanently, reportedly also due to his wage demands.

Roma remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached, but the final decision rests with Sancho, who would need to accept reduced wages for a deal to be done.
