Roma moved within three points of the Serie A summit after a composed 2-0 win away to Lecce, ending a poor run of away form and extending their dominance in the head-to-head.

Roma moved to within three points of the Serie A summit with a controlled 2-0 victory over Lecce, extending the hosts’ miserable recent record against the Giallorossi to just one win in the last 38 meetings.

Having lost four of their previous six league matches, Roma began the weekend outside the top four for the first time since September. Keen to rediscover their early-season momentum, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side started aggressively and were rewarded with an early breakthrough.

The opener arrived in the 14th minute when Paulo Dybala displayed superb vision to find Evan Ferguson on the edge of the area. The Irish striker showed great composure, guiding a low finish past Wladimiro Falcone for his third Serie A goal of the campaign.

Roma, who had won all 10 league matches in which they had scored first this season, looked to build on their advantage. Clear chances were limited before the break, but Bryan Cristante saw an effort blocked while Falcone reacted sharply to deny Ferguson from close range.

Lecce offered little in a subdued first half but showed more intent after the interval. Substitute Santiago Pierotti spurned their best opportunity, firing wide from a promising position inside the box.
Roma responded with chances of their own, although Wesley França and Dybala failed to find the target as the visitors looked to put the contest to bed.

That decisive moment eventually arrived inside the final 20 minutes, when Artem Dovbyk turned Niccolò Pisilli’s cross-shot into the net from close range. The second goal extinguished any lingering hopes of a Lecce comeback, allowing Roma to see out a comfortable win, end a run of three straight away defeats, and keep the pressure firmly on the teams above them in the title race.
